Autumn of Its Years

The Sacandaga Valley Arts Network is pleased to present current work by photographer Gary Larsen.  His show, entitled “Local Flavor”, will be on display at the Northville Public Library Gallery, 3rd Street, Northville, during the month of July. All are welcome to the Meet the Artist reception on Tuesday, July 6th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the second floor Gallery. This solo exhibit features a number of photographic images of Adirondack scenes in both normal color and infrared as well as several from Larsen’s travels around the country.

The Adirondack Park has intrigued Larsen since childhood where his family vacationed for many years.  After a full working career with travels throughout the U.S., he returned to the Park with his artist wife, Ann, to live in the historic town of Edinburg and continue his photography. His images preserve the subtle light, shadows, and patinas of the scenic landscapes, aging structures and beautiful flowers he finds in nature. Summarizing his enthusiasm about photography, he explains, “Each photograph renews a brief emotional reaction from the only moment the light and subject were creating my experience.  Photography provides technical challenges each time I try to preserve that fleeting inspiration.  Opening the shutter, I know what I see will never be the same again.  And, I hope that I have translated my emotions into the best photograph possible.”

During his 30 years of interest in photography, Larsen has taken classes and workshops with well-known photographers George Lepp, John Shaw, Weldon Lee and B. Moose Peterson. His photographs in both the normal color and infrared process have been exhibited in many local, regional, and national galleries and he has received awards and recognition in juried shows, especially in Adirondack venues and publications. From July 1st to 30th SVAN will be exhibiting Larsen’s photographs at the Northville Public Library Gallery located at 341 S. Third Street, Northville.
