Sacandaga Valley Arts – Meet the Artist

The Sacandaga Valley Arts Network is fortunate to exhibit the paintings of Marion Kratky in a show entitled “Passages” for the month of March. Ms. Kratky works primarily with oil and occasionally acrylic as her preferred mediums and tends toward a representational style. Recently she has been working on “plein air” in-the-field studies because as she observes, “nature does give all the answers”.

Marion lives in the southern Adirondacks with her artist husband and has had a lifelong awareness of drawing and painting. She has been fortunate to have constant encouragement in her pursuit of her art and continues to learn her craft through SUNY classes and workshops with regional artists. Marion concedes that her biggest challenge is “to be able to know what to include and what to omit in a painting and perhaps most of all, to know when a painting is finished”.

Marion’s work has been acknowledged in regional juried shows including Masters Division status and 1st Place for acrylics at the Central Adirondack Art Exhibition, Old Forge, NY between 2005-2009, an Honorable Mention in the 2009 “Farmscapes Show”, Lake Placid Center for the Arts Fine Arts Gallery, and has placed and won honorable mentions for both oil and acrylics at the Hagaman Fall Art Shows from 2005-2009. She has also exhibited at juried shows at the Arkell Museum Annual Show and the Bennington Center for the Arts in 2009. From her many group shows and a solo SVAN show, Marion observes, “It has been said, detail doesn’t always make for a better painting.  My objective isn’t to render an exact copy of a scene; cameras can do that, but rather to be selective with elements through shapes, color and light.  I am always amazed at how seemingly ordinary places and things are transformed with light and color.”

From March 1st to March 30th, SVAN will be exhibiting Marion’s paintings at the Northville Public Library Gallery located at 341 S. Third Street, Northville.  Please join Marion at our Meet the Artist reception on Tuesday, March 2nd, from 6-8 p.m.  All are welcome to attend this SVAN visual arts event.
